PRINTS
Digital and film photos by Ty Bowman.
Circa 2019 my mom gave me her dads Pentax K1000 35mm film camera. I didn’t think it worked because it was 40+ years old, so I just left it sitting on the shelf as a decor piece. About a year later I started doing research on the camera and realized it needed a wire repair and a new battery. I was able to fix the camera (shout-out YouTube), and took a few photos unsure if the camera was even working. After I had the first roll of film developed, not only was I pleasantly surprised the camera actually captured the photos, I instantly feel in love with the nostalgic feeling and colors in each photo. It’s safe to say this moment led to bringing my film camera with me every time I would leave the house. I would get lost downtown Charleston, SC and see what kind of moments I could capture.
The first time I traveled with my film camera was when I visited San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2021. I was shooting with the same mindset as before; “just shoot, and let's see what we get." After sorting through these photos, I began thinking some of my photos were pretty decent and that I might have an eye for photography. Taking my camera with me on trips instantly became my thing.
Between 2022-2023 I traveled to Punta Cana, Dominican Republic, Rio De Janeiro, Brazil and three cities in Argentina (Mendoza, Mar Del Plata and Buenos Aires). When I was on these trips I would always designate some time to shoot, mainly with the idea of using the photos to curate a cohesive Instagram feed. So that’s what I did, I shared all my favorite photos on Instagram to highlight the beautiful places I had visited, but I really thought the photos were great and wanted to showcase them differently. So here we are, and here's to documenting my travels in physical form of photography. I hope you enjoy these prints and I appreciate your support!
